What to Expect – Custom Costume Process
I offer a personalised, high quality costume-making experience, ensuring each costume is thoughtfully designed, well-fitted, and finished to a high standard.
1. Initial Enquiry & Design Brief
Once you get in touch, I’ll ask a few key questions to understand your vision, including:
• The dancer’s song
• Style of dance
• Colour preferences
• Any inspiration photos you may have
This helps guide the overall look and feel of the costume.
2. Design & Approval
Based on your brief, I will create a custom costume design.
This design will be shared with you for approval, including colours and overall style. If you’d like any changes, we can tweak the design until you’re completely happy before moving forward.
3. Measurements & Fit
Before construction begins, measurements will be taken.
• For local Cairns families, this can be done in person
• Accurate measurements are essential to ensure the best possible fit
Once measurements are confirmed, I’ll begin creating the base of the costume.
4. Base Fitting
When the base is complete, the dancer will come in for a fitting.
This allows me to:
• Check fit and comfort
• Make any necessary adjustments
• Ensure the costume moves well on the body
5. Embellishment & Finishing
After the fit is finalised, I’ll move on to adding embellishments and finishing details. This is where the costume really comes to life and becomes stage-ready.
6. Completion Timeframe
The full process generally takes up to one week, depending on the style and level of detail required. More intricate designs may take slightly longer, and this will always be discussed upfront.
7. Ongoing Fit Support
I also offer free strap and minor fit adjustments as your child grows, so the costume continues to fit comfortably throughout the season.
